Things to do this Easter in Edinburgh

Spending Easter in Edinburgh? The city comes to life during spring and the Easter weekend is no different. From things to do with kids and family-friendly attractions, to springtime walks and chocolate lovers’ delights – we’ve got your weekend covered.

Get outdoors

Holidays are best enjoyed with a bit of fresh air. There’s plenty in Edinburgh and the weather in spring tends to be some of the best that the city sees all year.

Jump on a bus to the Botanic Gardens where you’ll find an array of flowers bursting with colour. If you’re looking for some history, there’s an interesting exhibition called ‘After the Storm’, running until May, which showcases how timber ruined in a 2012 storm is being used today to make furniture.

Just a short walk from Apex Grassmarket Hotel, the weekly Farmer’s Market at Castle Terrace is a must visit. Local, seasonal produce is at the heart of these stalls every Saturday. During Easter you’ll find themed activities for kids, and the Castle views make it a great place to wander on a Saturday morning.

Family time

Palace of Holyrood House is one of the most popular attractions in Edinburgh, and there’s more to it than meets the eye. State rooms, Royal bedrooms, towers, an abbey and beautiful gardens, the Palace is full of history and best enjoyed throughout the spring and summer months. Over Easter weekend you’ll get extra value with interactive storytelling and face painting, enough to keep little the older ones enthused, and the little ones entertained.

Leave enough time late afternoon to explore the surrounding Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat. It’s just a 15 minute stroll back to Apex Waterloo Place.

Cadbury Egg Hunts at The National Trust

The Easter Bunny is here in Edinburgh and he’s hiding clues around National Trust properties at Georgian House, Charlotte Square as we speak. Simply pay £1 on top of your entry fee to collect a map, follow the clues, solve the puzzle and claim your chocolate surprise!

More chocolate? Yes please!

If you’re staying with us over Easter weekend you’ll, of course, be expecting a chocolate surprise in your room. Our limited edition chocolate duck is handmade by Choc-on-Choc. On a diet? Pick one of the best walks in Edinburgh to explore during your stay and you’ll be guilt free come Monday.
