Top 5 Beer Gardens in Edinburgh

Spring has sprung! Time to find a spot in the sun with a drink in hand and spend the afternoon with friends and family. Check out our top picks below for the best beer gardens in Edinburgh if it’s sunny or if it’s raining you could visit one of our top cosy pubs in Edinburgh.

The Peartree, 38 West Nicolson Street

Probably the most spacious of our favourite beer gardens, The Peartree is the place to be on a sunny day. There are loads of picnic tables and some sheltered areas so you’ll get a seat whilst relaxing on a sunny afternoon sipping a gin & tonic. The outdoor bar means you can stay in the sun all day and bar snacks are available which take care of lunch. If the weather doesn’t deliver, snuggle up by the fire on the cosy leather sofas.

The Three Sisters, 139 Cowgate

Perfect for sports fans, The Three Sisters is just a few minutes’ walk from Apex Grassmarket Hotel in The Cowgate. With live games showing on an enormous screen, it’s the best choice on sports event days. The atmosphere’s electric with supporters on most weekends, but if there’s no event on the courtyard area is still a nice place to catch up with friends.

The Blackbird, 37-39 Leven Street

Cold drinks on a warm afternoon are heaven and don’t come around often in Scotland. The Blackbirds urban beer garden is a little slice of calm in the bustling city to enjoy a day off. Whether you’re with a group or just your partner, there’s enough space and cosy corners for everyone. If you’d rather be sheltered from the sun (or rain!) there’s some parasols and shelter there too.

The Beehive Inn, 20 Grassmarket

Right on our doorstep at Apex Grassmarket Hotel, The Beehive is one of the Grassmarket’s best pubs. Don’t be fooled by the outdoor seating at the front, the pub has a hidden beer garden at the back of the building with sneaky views of Edinburgh Castle!

Outhouse, 12A Broughton Street Lane

One for the livelier crowd, The Outhouse is best as a pre-night out option with a DJ in the bar and a busy crowd. It doesn’t catch much sun, but is a good outdoor bar for mingling and gathering just off Broughton Street and a 10 minute walk from Apex Waterloo Place Hotel.
