2019 travel hot list

The festivities are over, the lights have been taken down and the 2019 planners have been broken out. New year, new you? What about new year, new city? Or new country? Or even new continent? We’re dubbing 2019 the year to experience new cultures, places and people, because as far as we’re concerned, there’s no better time to travel than right now. So whether it’s exploring a country you’ve lived in for years or dusting off your passport to go somewhere further afield, we’ve got you covered. We’ve put together a list of places we’d love to explore in 2019 to hopefully give you some travel inspiration of your own. Prepare for some serious wanderlust…

First on our list of places to explore in 2019 is the capital itself and the home of three of our hotels. Last year, VisitEngland launched their #MyMicroGap campaign to encourage more young people to seek out travel in the UK, highlighting the vast array of cultural experiences we have on our doorsteps. London has so much to offer for foodies, anglophiles and party people alike. There’s always an interesting popup, a museum to explore or a quirky street to snap on Instagram, and since Elle branded 2019 the year of bite sized travel, we’ve decided we’re all for more affordable city breaks this year.

Continuing the theme of making the most of what’s available to us in the UK, our next travel pick for 2019 is the home of the V&A. Scotland’s fourth-largest city made it onto Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2018 list and shows no signs of slowing down. In recent years Dundee has reinvented itself and was even called “Scotland’s coolest city” by the Wall Street Journal. So what are you waiting for? See what all the hype is about and book a trip to Dundee now.

Arguably one of the most Instagrammable places in the world, picturesque architecture and rich culture have firmly earned Marrakesh a spot on our 2019 travel bucket list. Although a popular destination with the rich and famous, you can easily do Marrakesh without breaking the bank. Explore the city’s old town markets, also known as souks, and pick up some seriously delicious (and affordable) street food as well as beautifully crafted accessories that’ll put anything you buy on the high street to shame.

New York City

As NASA prepare to start work on their Lunar Space Station, the once out of this world (literally) prospect of space travel is flying closer to home. And whilst we may never take to space for a holiday in this lifetime, we can take to the skies for one instead – and we promise the view will be just as mesmerising. FlyNYON offers open-door helicopter tours around your favourite cities and gives you a chance to experience them without boundaries from above. Our personal favourite city to explore from the sky? The city that never sleeps of course. Take in New York like never before, and now, thanks to budget airlines and affordable hotels, the Big Apple is more accessible for UK travellers than ever before. It’s definitely on our list.

After we saw that Lonely Planet named Sri Lanka the top country for travel in 2019, our interest was piqued. The company attributed their ranking to the country’s new and improved transport links, wide variety of accommodation and its growing number of activities – not to mention Sri Lanka’s natural beauty. Adventure Student Travel found that one of the top travel trends of 2019 is green travel and more people are being more environmentally conscious when seeking out holiday destinations. If you’re looking for some greenspo in 2019, why not take a safari at Yala National Park where 1268 square kilometres of land have been preserved for elephants, monkeys and other animals to roam freely. Go green and have some guilt-free holiday fun!

If like us you want to explore more of the UK this year, our hotels are centrally-located in London, Bath, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow and are perfect for both visitors and locals. Or if you’d like to go further afield, check out our blog post on how to find the best hotel offers.
