Things to do at Christmas time in Edinburgh

Christmas in Edinburgh is a magical time of year. The city is absolutely buzzing with things to do, here’s what we recommend…

A visit to Santa Land

OK, the Edinburgh Christmas Market/Santa Land has officially surprised The Magic Forest in Lake George as the most magical place on earth. It vaguely reminded of the Union Square Christmas Market, but with a ridiculous amount of European charm poured on top. Oh, and the food and drink! We had a walking-around dinner tonight and dined on, in no particular order: Mince pies, Nutella & banana crepes, Bavarian pretzels, waffles with berries, beer, hot toddys laced with gin, cider laced with rum, and hot chocolate laced with Baileys (and Colin & Wesley had Cadbury: hot chocolate). Well played, Edinburgh… See you again tomorrow night! . #Edinburgh #EdinburghChristmas #EdinburghChristmasMarket #EdinburghSantaLand #SantaLand #Scotland #BringMeAllTheFood #HiddenScotland #Edinburgh_Highlights #ScottishRoamers

The Dome is famed for its fabulous Christmas lights and the impressive decorations inside. You’ll see many a tourist posing on the grand steps outside. Don’t be afraid to pop in for a festive tipple, but don’t bank on getting a seat!

Edinburgh Christmas Markets

Edinburgh’s Christmas Markets are a spectacle not to be missed. Delicious food and drink stalls bursting with European fare and arts and crafts galore. You really will feel like you’re on the continent. It’s open seven days a week and is the perfect place to pick up a few stocking fillers.

Ice Skating & mulled wine at St Andrew Square

Who's coming for an evening ice skate tonight? We have two spectacular Ice Rinks in St Andrew Square & East Princes St Gardens!

Over the festive period, St Andrew Square is transformed into a giant ice rink, with a cosy cabin-feel pop up bar in the middle. There are lots of hot ciders and mulled wines to try, if you’re not so steady on your skates.

Shrek the Musical

Shrek the Musical comes to The Edinburgh Playhouse this Christmas. A fun musical that all the family can enjoy. Just around the corner from Apex Waterloo Place, Elliot’s Restaurant and Bar is the perfect place to grab a pre-theatre bite to eat, or a post-show cocktail.

End the day at an Apex Hotel

Our four Edinburgh hotels offer the perfect place to curl up at the end of a long day. Enjoy a delicious hot chocolate at City of Edinburgh, or treat yourself to a winter spa treatment at Pure Spa, Apex Waterloo Place Hotel.
