Edinburgh’s largest fish and chips challenge: Have you got what it takes?

If you love fish and chips, and love a challenge, you’re in luck – read on, fellow foodies. It’s time to step up to the plate.

That’s right, hungry folk, work up an almighty appetite and head to Edinburgh’s Apex Grassmarket Hotel, home of the largest fish supper in the capital.

Piece of cake, right? Wrong! For one, this is fish – a lot of fish (and thick-cut chips). And two, this whopper weighs in at three times the size of a standard fish supper, so you’ll need to come hungry.

Maybe ditch the belt and wear some loose fitting clothes for this one, or your favourite pair of trackies – nobody will judge, but we’ll all be super impressed to see an empty plate at the end of your sitting.

Still think you have what it takes to step up to this feast fit for a king? This is by no means an ordinary portion.

It is, in fact, three times the size of the classic British favourite, and will include battered fish, chips, tartar sauce, minty mushy peas, pickled fennel, lemon and a pint of beer or glass of house wine, all for £20.

The King of the Sea Supper
Can you handle it? The King of the Sea Supper awaits at Apex Grassmarket Hotel.

All we ask from you, is that you polish off the massive dish in its entirety. And it’ll all be worth it if you do, because an empty plate means you’ll be in with the chance of winning a complimentary meal for two at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel through a monthly prize draw.

Just for added incentive, if you are bold enough to dive in to the culinary challenge you’ll also be gifted with a miniature dram of whisky, collapsible copper shot cup and crown to remind you of your efforts and accomplishment.

Still drooling? The King of the Sea Supper will be on sale from Friday 2 August and is ready for you to attempt to wipe the plate clean during Edinburgh Fringe.

Sing to win

And that’s not all, food fans. With the Fringe Festival set to kick off on 1 August, Apex Grassmarket is giving you the chance to win a free King of the Sea supper by singing for your dinner.

Throughout the festival, customers can apply to provide our guests in the hotel with their own musical performance in the main restaurant. There will be a winner chosen daily to enjoy Edinburgh’s largest fish supper.
