Is power napping the way forward?

Advice from Celynn Morin

Have you ever felt incredibly tired and run down, then found that a short nap has suddenly made you feel markedly better? It can make a world of difference.

The phenomenon of the power nap is really not to be underestimated for those with a busy lifestyle.

Just 10 or 20 minutes of sleep can work wonders for your sense of well-being, while giving you the vital boost to mental alertness that can see you through a challenging day.

However, how you take that power nap can be just as vital as how long you take it for. Achieving the perfect power nap is an art in itself.

Learning the right techniques for grabbing a few minutes of precious relaxation represents a big step in the right direction – and at Apex Hotels, where our pledge to provide a warmer welcome for all guests is of huge importance to us, we want you to get the best nap possible.

With that in mind, try listening to our wellbeing expert Celynn Morin’s podcast on ‘The Rise of the Power Nap’. It’s a great way to relax and sleep and you can find it here.

Advice from our ambassador

Celynn takes listeners through why caffeine doesn’t represent an effective solution to sleep deprivation. Instead, a good power nap taken in the correct manner in a quiet, dark place may enhance memory, cognitive skills, creativity and energy levels.

She reveals how power naps improve verbal memory, creative problem solving, object learning, perceptual learning and statistical learning too.

Fundamentally, they improve mood, energise us, and benefit our heart, blood pressure, stress levels and even weight management.

But you have to do it right – and Celynn’s podcast is the perfect guide, pointing out that you should doze for a maximum of 30 minutes to ensure effectiveness, with just 10 minutes having a positive impact, and avoid power napping after 4pm when it may have a knock-on effect for your nightly sleep patterns.
