say “I do” to wedding fairs

Wedding Fair season at Apex is officially over for another year. After two successful wedding fairs at Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa in Dundee and our Apex Grassmarket hotel in Edinburgh (spot the castle view) it’s time for us to retire the planners for another year and daydream about all the delicious wedding cakes we tested – because cake testing is obviously a really important part of our job…

While we’re sad the events are over, we’re glad so many of you came along and enjoyed them, and hopefully got some inspiration for your wedding in the process.

Laura from The Style Stories came to our Dundee wedding fair and we got the chance to chat to her about all things wedding in the run up to her big day next year. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: So Laura, what’s your favourite thing about wedding fairs?

A: I think my favourite thing about wedding fairs is getting all the inspiration for seeing how your day could be and meeting all the suppliers as well. I think it’s a really nice way to meet the suppliers who might end up being part of your day and give you a vision for what it’ll end up being like.

Q: What’s been the most challenging part about planning your wedding?

A: Managing the guest list and the budget inside of things. I think you kind of have an idea in your head about how much things cost and then they don’t usually cost that! I think that’s why coming to a wedding fair is very helpful for that and you can get an idea about what things will cost you. And the guest list – there’s always someone you’ve forgotten to add!

Q: What’s been your favourite part about planning your wedding?

A: I think my favourite part has been working together to really create something that feels like us. It’s been a really exciting project so far and something that we’ve both really enjoyed working on. It’s really exciting to build something that feels like people will walk in the room and know that it’s our day.

When we asked Laura what her top tips are for anyone just starting their wedding planning journey, she gave us three key pieces of advice:

  • Do your research and take your time.

  • Book your suppliers when you know you want them – don’t miss out.

  • Enjoy it and have fun!
