Southbank walk in London

A Southbank walk in London is a fantastic place to take in some of London’s best sights. Stretching from London Bridge to Westminster, you can walk along the banks of the River Thames in about 40 minutes. If you’ve got more time, you can stop and spend a full day taking in the bustling atmosphere and famous attractions. Pick and choose where you stop from these key attractions to suit your time.

Whether you start your day from Apex Temple Court Hotel or Apex London Wall Hotel, you’ll be just a short walk to London Bridge. If you start from Apex City of London Hotel, you might want to take a wander through Tower of London and cross at Tower Bridge before making your way down the Southbank.

Take in views down the River Thames as you cross the bridge toward Southwark Cathedral. Stop in at the Borough Market, Britain’s most renowned food market. Try local produce from fruit and veg to meat, fish and cheese in this eclectic mix of food from around London and further afield – the perfect midmorning snack.

Tate Modern

Once you’ve been to the market, head toward the river and continue along Clink Street then Bankside. You can stop in at Tate Modern to see a collection of international modern art from 1900 to the present day, all housed in the former Bankside Power station. Depending on how much time you have, continue along the South Bank and find somewhere different to eat or stop for a break.

Lunch and drinks

OXO Tower is perfect for lunch and cocktails with stunning views. Further west, Southbank Centre holds a great street food market throughout the summer, check here for dates. Or you can try nearby Riverfront Bar & Kitchen with outdoor seating and a laid back atmosphere.

Once you’ve refuelled, continue your Southbank walk in London and you’ll reach Westminster Bridge. You can cross back over the Thames to explore Westminster, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. If you’d like to get back to your hotel, you can catch the River Bus from Blackfriars and under the famous Tower Bridge. Here you’ll get the perfect photo opportunity. Hop off and head back to The Lampery Restaurant for a relaxing coffee away from the bustling city streets.
