Spotlight on Thermae Bath Spa

Ever since the Romans built their magnificent bathing complex in the heart of the city, people have made a pilgrimage to Bath to ‘take the waters’.

Today, visitors to Thermae Bath Spa can relax in the naturally warm, mineral-rich waters just as the Celts and Romans did over 2,000 years ago and enjoy a range of contemporary spa experiences. Here’s a little insight into what’s on offer.

Open-air Rooftop Pool

By day and by night, visitors to the spa can enjoy spectacular views over the City of Bath and surrounding hills from the Rooftop Pool. The thermal waters are enhanced by air seats and bubbling jets. Come rain or shine, the Rooftop Pool is open all year round and offers a truly unique spa experience.

Minerva Bath

Named after the Roman Goddess of Health & Wisdom, this is the largest of the thermal baths at Thermae Bath Spa. Distinguished by flowing curves and grand columns, the therapeutic waters are complemented by an invigorating massage jet, whirlpool and lazy river. Special coloured lighting adds to the relaxing atmosphere at night.

The Wellness Suite

In the new multi-sensory Wellness Suite, guests can enjoy the contrasting experiences of the Roman and Georgian steam rooms, a state-of-the-art Infrared Sauna, an invigorating Ice Chamber and a dreamlike Astral Relaxation room.

Springs Café Restaurant

The Springs Café Restaurant serves a selection of freshly prepared meals, light bites and interesting drinks throughout the day. The popular Twilight Package provides an opportunity to experience the gradual change in light and atmosphere at the spa in the evening along with light meal & glass of wine.

Spa treatments

Guests at Thermae can also choose from over 40 spa treatments and spa packages, including our signature ‘Watsu’ treatment, performed in the historic Hot Bath. Other treatments on offer included a range of deeply relaxing massages, hot stone therapies and facials using skincare from the award-winning Aromatherapy Associates.

The Cross Bath

Across from the main spa complex, the stand alone Cross Bath is an intimate open-air bath with its own changing facilities where visitors can bathe in the natural thermal waters which emerge from a specially-commissioned poolside fountain. The Cross Bath can be enjoyed by individuals or exclusively for small parties of up to 12 people. To complete the celebration, a variety of light bites, soft drinks, wine and Prosecco can be arranged.

The Waters

The water that feds all the thermal baths at Thermae Bath Spa fell as rain around 10,000 years ago and then sank to a depth of about 2km. Here it is heated by high temperature rocks before rising back up through one of the three hot springs in the centre of the City, the Cross Spring, Hetling or King’s Spring, which supplies the Roman Baths. The thermal waters contain over 42 different minerals, the most concentrated being sulphate, calcium & chloride.

Whether you are looking for somewhere to meet, eat or simply chat with friends, you can relax and refresh your senses in the inspiring setting of Thermae Bath Spa.
