Top five places for al fresco dining in Dundee

From June to August there’s nothing better than spending the longer summer nights outside, especially when you find a little al fresco suntrap and a well-stocked bar. We’ve sussed out the top five places to enjoy an al fresco drink, or a bite to eat, in Dundee.

The Jute Café Bar at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre is a favourite all year round, but the seating area outside comes into its own during the summer months. The buildings surrounding it provide the perfect, little suntrap. You can enjoy coffees, lunches and drinks outside during the day, and it’s the perfect place to catch the last the rays in the evening with a cocktail in hand.

Located in the West End of Dundee, Taypark House is a hidden gem. Housed in a Category B listed former Scots Baronial mansion house, the now boutique hotel has a bustling café restaurant which extends to welcome a beautiful Gin & Fizz Garden Bar in the grounds throughout the summer months. Sip on a G&T and let the longer evenings roll in.

The Newport

In 2016, Masterchef Winner Jamie Scott, launched his own restaurant, The Newport, which sits across the River Tay looking back towards Dundee. The sunsets enjoyed from this secluded spot are to die for, and the outside decking provides the perfect al fresco dining spot. And it’s not just us who love the location – you’ll need to book to avoid disappointment.

Duke’s Corner

the only place to get a decent long island iced tea in dundee tbh

Open until 2.30pm, Duke’s Corner is the perfect place to watch day turn into night. Their welcoming beer garden is perfectly prepped for drinks and long conversations, and the sounds and smells from their BBQ grill can’t help but add to the summer night vibes.

The Wine Press

A stone’s throw from Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa, The Wine Press boasts great wines and great views in the heart of Dundee’s Waterfront development. They offer a delicious selection of cheese and charcuterie boards, and once you bag a seat at one of the much-coveted patio tables, you’ll want to stay until after dark.

Make your summer night’s dream happen and book a Dundee city break. In the meantime we’ll grab a cocktail, outside Yu Spa in our very own suntrap, and see you at sundown.
