Winter breaks in Bath

Bath is one of the most beautiful places in the UK so it makes sense that it’s one of our favourite places to spend a winter break. With stunning architecture, delicious food and some of the country’s best Christmas markets, you’ll never want to leave. Luckily for us, our cool and contemporary Apex City of Bath Hotel is perfectly placed in the heart of the city, just a short stroll from the Roman Baths and other top attractions. Check out our top picks for your winter break in Bath.

Relax at Thermae Bath Spa

Thermae Bath Spa

The world-renowned Thermae Bath Spa is one of our favourite places to indulge in relaxation this winter. Pamper yourself with a spa treatment and unwind in the thermal waters in the open-air rooftop pool. Don’t worry, you won’t catch a chill here. In fact, winter is a great place to visit as you’ll be bathing in 33 degree water. You’ll struggle to find a spa with a better view in the UK, or a more soothing place to relax, for that matter.

Discover the Roman Baths

Roman Baths

A trip to Bath wouldn’t be complete without visiting the famous Roman Baths. Situated in the heart of the City of Bath World Heritage Site, this amazing historic site is a must-see if you’re visiting the city this winter. Explore the ancient ruins and walk on the very same pavements the Romans walked on thousands of years ago. The Roman Baths are great for visitors of all ages and there’s a reason it’s one of the most visited heritage attractions in the UK and attracts over one million visitors a year.

Enjoy locally sourced food

Sally Lunn’s

One of Bath’s most-loved local delicacies is the famous Sally Lunn bun and you can try it for yourself at Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House. The oldest house in Bath (c.1483), where Sally Lunn established her bakery in 1680, it serves up a delicious menu based on the famous bun during the day, plus fine English food at night. You can also visit the museum in the house and see the original kitchen Sally used all those centuries ago.

Take in the incredible architecture

Pulteney Bridge

One of the things we love about Bath is that it’s so easy to explore the city on foot. If you’re staying at our Apex City of Bath Hotel, you won’t need to walk very far to see some impressive architecture. The beautiful Bath Abbey is situated on York Street, just a five-minute walk from our hotel, and the beautiful Pulteney Bridge is just under a 10-minute walk. Photography enthusiasts will be in their element, and even if you’re an amateur, you’ll be able to snap some stunning photos for your Instagram.

Explore Bath Christmas Markets

Christmas in Bath

Bath Christmas Markets are running from 28 November – 15 December 2019 and will be welcoming more than 150 twinkling chalets to Bath’s picturesque streets this winter. From delicious cuisine to handcrafted jewellery and bespoke Christmas decorations, it’s one of the best places to get in the festive spirit. Why not treat yourself to a hot cider or mulled wine to keep yourself warm as you explore? It’s one of our favourite ways to spend the weekend in Bath at this time of year. If you miss the markets, Bath’s also home to some great shopping streets, perfect for picking up any last-minute Christmas presents.
