Winter pop-ups: Five of the best cosy bars in London

A winter terrace might seem like a contradiction, but London’s bars have outdone themselves this year with cosy winter gardens, festive rooftops, Alpine chalets and those oh-so-Instagrammable igloos. Lucky for us, we’ve got three centrally located London hotels so you can fall into one of our dreamy beds for a great night’s sleep after taking in all London’s cool pop ups have to offer.

It’s hard to whittle down all of London’s incredible venues into one concise list, but we did, so here are five of our firm favourites that’ll be sure to bring you some Christmas cheer.

Igloos at Coppa Club

We think these pop-up festive igloos next to Tower Bridge can be held responsible for starting the igloo craze since they’ve made an appearance alongside the banks of the River Thames for the past few years. Both drinking and dining can be enjoyed inside these see-through domes, with unrivalled views of the Thames, Tower Bridge and The Shard.

These picturesque igloos are less than a 10 minute walk from our Apex City of London Hotel so you can crash out in one of our dreamy beds after taking in all the festivities and Instagrammable views.

The Alpine Club at Winterland

A riverside beach known as Neverland during the summer months, but when winter closes in, it’s all about Winterland. The deckchairs are stored away and out come the chairlifts as the space transforms into an outdoor ski resort complete with activities, cosy fire pits and bars aplenty.

We would usually stay clear of shopping centres at Christmas, but the ski lodge pop-up at the top of Stratford Shopping Centre is a festive dream. Drink your hot cocktails in your own private igloos, or indulge by the street food stalls. There’s also the opportunity to try your hand at curling (bowling’s wonderful winter cousin). The theme for this winter is even ‘Curl Runnings’, a nod to the 25th anniversary of the classic ‘Cool Runnings’ film, which means you can expect tropical-style decor and Jamaican-inspired drinks.

Our Apex London Wall Hotel is just a short tube journey away from Roof East so you can sink into one of our comfortable beds after a night of sipping on some Jamaican-inspired tipples

Pergola on the Roof

Open in both Paddington and Olympia London, these popular summer rooftop hangouts are turning their al fresco spaces into warming winter wonderlands. Expect roof coverings and to be kept warm with their heating systems – you can’t go wrong with either venues whatever the weather. There’s also an abundance of food and drinks to be had, from pizza to Vietnamese buns.

Our Apex Temple Court Hotel is a great place to stay if you’re visiting either of these venues. Situated just 10 minutes from Covent Garden, you’ll be just a short walk away and perfectly placed to take in all the West End has to offer.

The Lampery

OK, this one isn’t technically a pop-up, but the trendy terrace area has an equally cool vibe to it. If you’re looking for the perfect festive setting for a Christmas tipple, look no further than the comfort of The Lampery. Indulge in some luxury bites under our twinkling floral canopy and let the chic surroundings get you in the Christmas spirit. To book any of the Festive packages at The Lampery, click here.
